Percussion quartet’s album BEYOND listed in two top ten lists

08 January 2018

Senior Lecturer Dr Justin DeHart's studio recording was recently listed in two top ten Classical Music Album lists for 2017.

The 9.1 surround sound and double disc album, Beyond, by Los Angeles Percussion Quartet (LAPQ), was released on Sono Luminus Records and is featured in two American-based lists, including National Public Radio. DeHart says “the album features new works for percussion that seek to expand on what people ordinarily think of when they think of percussion music. Although one certainly finds moments of loud groovy drumming, the majority of the album explores evocative sonic textures, timbre, mood, and makes use of an extreme range of dynamics.” New York Magazine said the album “explores percussion as a medium of whispered poetry”.

Dr Justin DeHart is a Senior Lecturer in Music and joined the UC School of Music in February 2017.
