The General Counsel and Registrar is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and the Secretary to the University Council. The General Counsel and Registrar provides advice and support for the Vice-Chancellor and Chancellor and has responsibility for:
- Management of governance through the University Council and its committees
- General Counsel for the University of Canterbury
- Legal and regulatory compliance
- Policy development, review and compliance
- Information and records management
- Internal audit
