Laser Safety

The University of Canterbury uses Laser products in research and teaching activities. The University of Canterbury is the owner of the premises in which these activities occur.

Employers and Employees, and all users of lasers (including students) and those supervising or overseeing them, have a role in maintaining a safe place of work and ensuring their activities do not present unacceptable levels of risk to themselves or others.

Protocol: Laser Safety sets out the established safe management best-practice in the use of laser products and outlines the mandatory requirements for the use of laser products to ensure the University:

  • complies with the AS/NZ Standards IEC 60825 Series
  • follows established safe management best-practice in the use of laser products

If you require help or advice on Laser Safety please contact the Laser Safety Officer or the Health and Safety Team.
