UC Mathematics and Statistics High Achievers Award


This scholarship recognises and supports high-achieving students at the University of Canterbury who are entering their first year of a BSc or BA degree programme and majoring in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or Financial Engineering. Five scholarships are available, one of which is reserved for a Maori or Pasifika student.

The online application system will begin accepting applications approximately eight weeks before the advertised closing date.

Applicants must have completed, or be completing, a university entrance qualification and have studied at secondary level in New Zealand in the year of application (or, in the case of a gap year, in the year immediately prior). International students who meet these requirements are eligible to apply.

Applicants must intend to enrol full-time in a programme for a BSc or BA degree at the University with:
a. a major in Mathematics and an enrolment in MATH 103; or
b. a major in Statistics and an enrolment in STAT 101; or
c. a major in Data Science and an enrolment in MATH 102, MATH 120, and STAT 101; or
d. a major in Financial Engineering and an enrolment in MATH 103 and STAT 101.
Recipients who gain direct entry into Year 2 of a BSc or BA degree programme with one of the above majors will be exempt from enrolling in the specified courses for this major.
