Unique research facilities
The University has cutting-edge research facilities, including:

The University has over 20 research centres, including:
- Gateway Antarctica: Centre for Antarctic Studies and Research

- National Centre for Research on Europe (NCRE) - is a partner in Erasmus Mundus, a European Commission-run international doctoral student exchange programme.

The University operates field stations in Kaikoura, Cass, Westport, Harihari, the sub-Antarctic Snares Islands and Antarctica, and New Zealand’s premier astronomical research facility at Mount John, Tekapo, famous for its clear southern skies.
We are also a
partner in the Southern African Large Telescope
(SALT) project and operate a field station in
Nigeria as part of the Nigerian Montane Forest
project. These facilities mean that UC offers
