Why Study at UC

Select your courses

Once you have decided on the degree and subjects that interest you, you need to decide on the courses to enrol in for your first year.

Courses are the building blocks of all UC qualifications. Each degree is made up of a number of courses. Each course has a point value which you can count towards your qualification when you have passed the course.

Browse the Courses, Subjects and Qualifications website to search which courses are offered in 2012 and get information about timetables, assessment and prerequisites. You can search for courses either by course code or subject. Tips to help you use the searches and find course codes are provided on the website. There is information to help you understand your course search results too.

Some courses may have more than one occurrence (offering) in a year. When you enrol, choose carefully the course occurrence for the semester and site in which you wish to study the course. Distance and regional campus study students who do not select ‘D’ for distance courses will not receive your course materials.

Some courses require prior passes in lower-level courses (prerequisites) or require that other courses be taken at the same time (co-requisites).

Some courses are restricted against other courses (restrictions). This means there is too much overlap in their content to allow both courses to be credited to the same qualification.

Most courses are taught in Semester 1 (February–June), Semester 2 (July–November), throughout the Whole Year (Semester 1 and Semester 2, February–November) or over Summer (November–February). Some courses are offered more than once in the same year, for example, in Semester 1 and in Semester 2. College of Education courses may have different dates.

Before completing your Application to Enrol, you should check that your first-year courses satisfy second and third-year prerequisites and any other degree requirements. A good starting point is the detailed information for each qualification. Select an undergraduate qualification from the list to check what subjects (or specialisations for some degrees) are available or required.

You must also check if your selected courses have a limited number of places available.
