Why Study at UC

Why Study at UC

Tuition fees and other costs

At UC each individual course has a fee which is based on the degree area and level of the course. Fees must be paid at enrolment, either by

  • scholarship
  • sponsor
  • cash
  • Student Loan
  • or a mix of the above

To find out the fees for individual courses visit Courses, Subjects and Qualifications website

Other study-related costs

Other costs you will need to allow for include:

  • Student Services Levy (Enrol at UC website)
  • textbooks, course readers and stationery (around $1,000, depending on degree area; some textbooks are available second-hand)
  • other course-related costs (eg, photocopying, printing)
  • optional extras: Recreation Centre membership ($99 in 2011) and a $92 annual parking fee.

Living costs

You will also have to budget for accommodation and living costs for a year. UC students are lucky, as Christchurch is one of New Zealand’s most affordable cities, walking and biking to campus are realistic options and Christchurch has a fantastic low-cost public transport system.
