CIS links that never date (CIS 2)

Suitable for PD&R.

What you'll learn and achieve on your department website

  1. Understand the difference between a specified and default year and why it's important
  2. A simple method to create future proofed URLs
  3. Identify and change all year specific links to the CIS across your site to default year

Why it's important to link using default year

Most department course pages correctly link to the CIS. But other pages with links to the CIS eg course advice, degree structure, individual staff pages etc are often year specific year and out of date (eg 2009, 2010 and 2011 course links).

  • If the year is specified you need to manually update links to the CIS each year
  • Correctly made links save you and your department save time by eliminating maintenance
  • Students access the correct course information (rather than wrong information from previous years)

PD&R commitment from you and your department

  • Time and place: Resources available from any computer (location flexible). Updates must be done on web maintainer's computer where Dreamweaver is installed. Allocate blocks of time as suits
  • Duration: Learning: 1 hour to study concept and learn skill. Apply to website: 2 - 5 hours (identify all pages with links to the CIS, check, change links to default year, upload and check)
