Getting started

Step 3: You and your department's commitment to training

Discuss the expectations on this page with your manager before you are trained. Without this commitment you will not develop the necessary skills needed to keep your department's website up to date.

What the Web Team provides

Commitment required by you and your department

As for learning any new skill, you need to practise regularly to increase your competence and confidence. The four hours of structured Dreamweaver training is just the start.

  • Build your web skills by referring to your training notes and additional material on the Web Team site
  • How to has topics and tutorials to help you in most instances
  • Commit to 1 or more further training (see bundled training suggestions - bottom of page) to improve your skills and website

Time commitment in the month following Dreamweaver training

  • Spend 8-16 hours working on your website(s) in the 4 weeks following training
  • This time is crucial. Without this we find people forget what they have learned and lose confidence. You reinforce new learning and become more confident and competent editing your site
  • If 8-16 hours over 4 weeks is not possible, you need to talk to your HOD or manager
  • If you won't have adequate time available come to another training session when you will. We run Dreamweaver training regularly

Time commitment after the first two months

  • On average expect to spend 0.5-1 hour per week maintaining your site
  • Considerably more time is required when working on major updates, or you are asked to do a task you have not done before or perform infrequently
  • You may need to spend anything from 2-20 hours on your site at these times
