Broken links checking on your website
Check for broken links on your site regularly using one of the two methods explained below.
1. Automated system using Web Link Validator (WLV)
- Generates a monthly report (or other timing)
- Sends you an automatic email with attached report
- Contact websupport@canterbury.ac.nz with your site name, URL and frequency of checking and we can set this up for you
2. Search for broken links with Xenu
- Xenu is PC-only Freeware that you can use to check for dead links on your site.
- Web support can set up Xenu for you, or you can simply Download Xenu from the Intranet (ZIP, 293 KB, Staff Only).

Report timing
- Scheduled dead links checks should be performed fortnightly (or monthly). We can advise you on frequency
- An additional check should be done whenever you make a major change to a site.
- You can also run a dead links check if someone reports finding a dead link in your site.
