The Voyage of the Astrolabe 1837 - 1840

Resources of Pacific Discovery in the age of the Astrolabe from our collection

The official account of the Astrolabe voyage 1837-1840 was published between 1841 and 1854. There are 10 volumes of the history of the voyage, and 13 volumes for scientific material, plus 7 atlases containing mainly drawings. The only comprehensive English translation was produced in 1987 by Helen Rosenman, in 2 volumes which summarised considerable amounts of text.

The Macmillan Brown Library has some of the volumes from d’Urville’s first voyage 1826-1829, but not a complete set.
