Sports Coaching

Why did you choose Sport Coaching?

I've always had a passion for sport and a passion for people, so this was the degree for me!

Favourite part of your degree?

I love the hands-on interaction. For every theory class we have a workshop class where we can apply what we’re learning to a real-life situation. Having small classes means you can really get involved. I learn through movement so that style of learning is perfect for me.

Any memorable coaching experiences?

In first year we got placed in a primary school. It was really cool getting to work with young kids. Now I've just finished coaching my own sport, surf lifesaving. It was awesome to apply the techniques I’ve learned in class to something I love to do every day. The athletes are a lot more responsive to me now.

Best part of UC?

The people. I’ve met so many people and gotten to know my lecturers really well. I’ve had lots of chances to make connections with people from the industry. In our third year we do a 120-hour internship which gets you experience for your CV. We’re always building connections that can lead to jobs in the future.

"Campus is a place where people come to for the day, not just for class. "

What do you love most about the UC student experience?

The events! O-week events every term are so much fun to get involved with. There’s always something new to keep you excited about coming back to uni. Mardi Gras is awesome, Tea Party is a classic. Anything they put on is really cool.

How’s the vibe on campus?

It's really social. Campus is a place where people come to for the day, not just for class. You can hang out and study in the library, go to a fitness class to de-stress, or grab lunch at one of the cafés. Everything you need is in one place.

How have you grown at UC?

The internships, support from my lecturers and hands-on coaching have all made me more confident. I’ve been inspired me to try new things and not be afraid of failure. At UC, everyone wants to ensure that you’re successful in whichever path you choose.
