Young entrepreneurs back home and thinking big

Three UC students have returned from across the ditch brimming with entrepreneurial spirit.

Joel Gabites, Luke Moynihan and Peter Young were sponsored by NZTE and UC's College of Business and Economics to attend Enterprisers Australia at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.

Enterprisers is an intensive residential programme, founded by the Cambridge-MIT Institute in the UK.

Peter, a final year commerce student and Chief Operating Officer of entr é - the University of Canterbury entrepreneurship challenge - says it was the most fun, inspirational and educational week of his studies so far.

“It provided me with the tools and the confidence to follow through on my ideas and make them happen.”

During the four-day programme the students were asked to think about their personal goals, and learnt about evolving ideas, pitching them and the importance of networking.

Luke, a third-year science student and member of student internship organisation AIESEC, says Enterprisers taught him to think big.

“I gained so much inspiration from the selection of entrepreneurs who spoke about their life experiences. We listened to such a wide spectrum of people, everyone from representatives of small medical companies to huge telcos.”

The students will soon present a report on their experience to the College, NZTE and the local business community.
