‘Connect with Nature’ – Mental Health Awareness Week 2016
From 10 – 16 October, 2016 UC participated in Mental Health Awareness Week. This was an opportunity for our UC community to break down stigmas associated with mental health and focus on ways in which we can connect with each other and seek good mental health and wellbeing.
Staff and students worked together to create events focused on the theme ‘connect with nature’. Highlights included stress management workshops, petting the huskies, a seminar on nutrition for mental wellbeing presented by Professor Julia Rucklidge, the Pizza Party at Okeover Community Garden with our Ecumenical Chaplain, and a super-charged give-it-a-go session of tai chi, karate, mediation and yoga on C-block lawn organised by the UC RecCentre.
The libraries put up bibliotherapy displays and several departments participated in the one-hour office lockout on World Mental Health Day as well as the ‘green your office’ competition.
