CEISMIC Volunteer

Activity

CEISMIC volunteers work with the CEISMIC programme staff to prepare content for the CEISMIC Canterbury Earthquakes Digital Archive. Volunteer roles include writing descriptions for photographs (using Google Maps and other web tools to pinpoint locations), extracting metadata from files, and assisting with proofreading and quality control. CEISMIC volunteers are required to have a very high level of written English.

Hours involved in the activity

Up to 2 modules of 12 hours each.

Every 12 hours of participation in an activity is equal to one intersection point (12 hours = 1 intersection point).
For this activity you can claim a maximum of 2 learning and development outcomes.

  • C6 - Problem solving - CEISMIC Volunteers find effective ways to research background information for descriptions and other metadata, and discover new tools and techniques to aid the team in their work.
  • C7 - Self-management - CEISMIC Volunteers work in a professional office environment. They manage their time to fit their volunteering commitment around their academic studies.
  • C8 - Teamwork - CEISMIC Volunteers work alongside CEISMIC staff and fellow volunteers. They are flexible, cooperative and able to accommodate others’ needs.
