Natasha Caldwell

Natasha Caldwell

Bachelor of Arts in Cultural Studies and Bachelor of Laws with Honours

Judge's Clerk, Court of Appeal, Wellington

Natasha's skills in research which she gained through her UC Law degree are put to constant use in her role working for Justice Glazebrook at the Court of Appeal.

'My job as a judge's clerk involves providing research assistance for my judge. This involves writing research memos on certain points of law that are being examined in judgments, proofreading judgments and assisting with the research for articles and speeches that my judge publishes.'

She is happy to have landed the job and particularly enjoys being close to the action. 'Working in the Court of Appeal provides a unique insight into the processes involved in judicial decision making. I've been able to watch cases being argued in the Court of Appeal and the work is varied and very interesting.'

It was because of the varied nature of work in the field of law that Natasha chose to study the subject. 'I thought that having a Law degree would ensure that I would have many different career opportunities once I had graduated,' she explains. 'I would recommend it for anyone.'

UC's School of Law is well established as one of the leading research and teaching Law schools in New Zealand, and Natasha says she enjoyed her time here. 'Not only is there a good student life at Canterbury, with lots of activities and events to become involved with, but also all the lecturers are really friendly and willing to offer help when you need it.'
