Welcome
From the Vice-Chancellor
It is a great pleasure for me to introduce the third biennial University of Canterbury Arts Festival, Platform.
The festival is 11 days of fine art, theatre, literature, lectures, music, film and opera, on campus and in the city, featuring collaborations between academic staff, performers, artists and students. You will see from the schedule that it is a rich representation of the talented people we have in the University’s College of Arts. The festival’s name reflects the intention of providing a platform for those talented staff and students to show the wider community why the University has played and continues to play such a vital role in New Zealand’s arts community.
I commend the College of Arts for the work it has done in organising Platform and I encourage you to make the most of this opportunity to enjoy some of the region’s finest talents.

Welcome to Platform
the University of Canterbury Arts Festival
As a University-wide festival, Platform 2010 offers a unique and enriched experience of the arts. It is a chance for audiences to see the next generation of artists and performers working alongside our world-class staff to create a dynamic 11-day extravaganza of art, lectures, theatre, music and film.
The College of Arts has a proud tradition of excellence, with some of New Zealand’s best known and admired artists having studied or taught at the University. The festival is a continuation of this fine tradition, featuring internationally renowned staff members and our very best students. It is always exciting for me when our different schools, artists and performers come together to create something unique. It is then we have a full appreciation of the sheer depth of talent here at the University.
I especially look forward to seeing the creativity and hard work of everyone involved transformed into a vibrant festival experience.
