Music Programme Highlights
Opera at the OctagonThe School of Music presents two short comic operas. MAID INTO MISTRESS (La Serva Padrona), Giovanni Pergolesi’s famous and feisty piece, was written in Naples in 1733. With sparkling music, Serpina, the charming and cheeky maid, cajoles her master into marriage. A FAULTY EDUCATION (Une education manquée) is Emmanuel Chabrier’s 1879 comedy, full of the sly Parisian naughtiness and seductive dance rhythms of its era. The naïve young newly-weds, ignorant of the facts of life, are given a push in the right direction when a thunderstorm erupts and nature takes its course. |

Michael EndresOutstanding German pianist Professor Michael Endres will present two lecture recitals for Platform. Michael has an extensive prize-winning discography and performs worldwide as a soloist and chamber music partner. |

Épigraphes AntiquesMichael Houstoun and Dr Gao Ping play music for two and four hands on one and two pianos. Between a mysterious Debussy opening and a spectacular Ravel close, there is music composed by maestro Dr Gao Ping himself, Kiwi genius John Psathas, and some gentlemen drunk on jazz. |
