Accessing your email

UC students are provided with a UC email address. Please check your student email at least once a week to ensure you don’t miss any important messages.

Postgraduate students doing research also receive a postgraduate email account which will be the main email account for UC communication.

You can use a mobile device to send and receive emails from your student email account.

Your email address

Your UC undergraduate student email address is username@uclive.ac.nz.

Accessing your email

Email for students is hosted by Microsoft Office 365. You can check your email through the web interface by entering your email address and password.

Forwarding email

You can use the “forward” rule in Office 365 or you can redirect messages to another email account. Learn how to do this on the Microsoft Office website.

Email mailbox size

You have 49.5GB of space available in your mailbox. The maximum size limit for email attachments is 10MB.

Get email on your mobile device

You can use a mobile device to send and receive emails from your student email account.

On the following mobile device operating systems:

  • iOS: Open Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account Microsoft Exchange.
  • Android: From the Applications menu, select Email. This application may be named Mail on some versions of Android.

The following settings maybe required to set up your account on your mobile device:

  • Server name IMAP: outlook.office365.com
  • Server name SMTP: smtp.office365.com

Your UC postgraduate student email address is firstname.lastname@pg.canterbury.ac.nz.

Email mailbox size

You have 2GB of space available in your mailbox. The maximum size limit for email attachments to internal recipients is 40MB, the size limit for attachments to external recipients is 27MB.

You can use a mobile device to send and receive emails from your student email account. 

On the following mobile device operating systems:

  • iOS: Open Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Microsoft Exchange.
  • Android: From the Applications menu, select Email. This application may be named Mail on some versions of Android.

The following settings maybe required to set up your account on your mobile device:

  • Domain: UOCNT
  • Server name: exchange.canterbury.ac.nz

Spam Filter

You can manage the spam filter for your @pg.canterbury.ac.nz email account by logging into the Anti-Spam Gateway.
