Yingzi Lin
China
Bachelor of Engineering (Hons)
Yingzi Lin’s parents and grandparents are engineers and she has always wanted to continue the family tradition. UC was the logical choice to study engineering because of its excellent international reputation.
She chose to study in New Zealand because she wanted to challenge herself. Yingzi studied at high school in Christchurch where she was the recipient of a number of scholarships and achieved the highest exam results of any student at her level in her final year.
Yingzi Lin is enjoying the style of teaching at UC. “We do a lot of assignments at UC whereas exam results count for the major part of your final grade in China. Although writing assignments is challenging for students who have English as their second language, it teaches you to think independently and it is very helpful to get a better understanding of engineering.”
Yingzi Lin’s experiences as an international student have been rewarding. “I have had the opportunity to improve my English, make new friends from many countries and learn about their cultures. But most importantly, studying at UC is providing me with a world class education and the opportunity to seek employment internationally when I graduate.”
