Annabel Murphy is in the process of completing her doctorate in Chemistry at Canterbury.
She speaks warmly about the University's excellent researchers and facilities. Annabel says “I had the honour of taking a course given by this year's Nobel Prize laureate, Professor Bob Grubbs. He was told he had won it the night before one of his lectures and still arrived promptly at 9AM.”
A unique endowment, the Erskine Fellowship, makes it possible for more than 70 academics from prestigious Universities around the world to visit and participate in Canterbury's teaching programme each year.
In her weekends Annabel enjoyed the New Zealand environment. “Scenery! If you like walking (or tramping as it's called here), climbing or snowboarding you'll like New Zealand. Christchurch is a good base for all of these,” she says.
