Accommodation options for UC International College students (UCIC)

UCIC Accommodation

Halls of residence

Campus Living Villages Ltd offers accommodation specifically tailored to your needs. If you are coming to UC to complete a Foundation Studies (FS) course or for the University Transfer Programme (UTP), accommodation can be arranged for February, June or October starts for a minimum of two UCIC semesters. This is the easiest and recommended option as your accommodation can be arranged before you arrive.  Regular events and activities are arranged for residents and the friendly staff are available to help and support you at any time.

Self-catered apartments

Ilam Apartments or Sonoda Christchurch Campus offer you independent apartment-style living with the bonus of living on-campus in a supportive community and are ideal for individual students over 18 years of age. You will have your own fully-furnished room and share a kitchen equipped with basic essentials, bathroom, living and laundry facilities.  The apartments are home to students of all ages, at all levels of study, and from all over the world.

Self-catered hall of residence

Kirkwood Avenue Hall is a smaller hall of residence with 74 rooms located next to the UC campus and close to UCIC classes.  Single and ensuite (own bathroom) rooms are available specifically for students in their first year of study 18 years or over. Four Residential Assistants will provide academic and pastoral support to ensure you make an easy transition from home to a tertiary environment.  A shared kitchen and individual food storage areas are offered along with recreational and study spaces.

How to apply

Please complete the online application form for accommodation selecting "UCIC 2016" or "UCIC 2017" as your term. The option to select your preferred hall or village will be outlined in your contract.  We recommend that you apply as soon as your UCIC course is confirmed.

Student details will be confirmed with UCIC before applications are processed. Accommodation is dependent on availability.

Homestay

For students under 18 years of age, homestay is the preferred option. Homestay provides you with your own fully-furnished room living with a New Zealand family in the family home.  The room rate is NZ$260 per week plus a NZ$330 placement fee. There is a minimum stay of 8 weeks with at least 2 weeks' notice required to make a placement, although earlier applications are recommended.  Contact Accommodation Services for an application form.

Private Renting

Renting privately is generally for a fixed term of 12 months and is a private arrangement between you and your landlord.  Not all properties are fully-furnished and this would need to be factored into your budget as well as transport, insurance, food and power.  This is not a recommended option for when you first arrive in New Zealand.

Apply for a free airport pickup

If you are arriving in New Zealand for the first time and are intending to study for at least one semester, you are eligible for a free airport pickup service. You will be picked up on arrival at Christchurch International Airport and delivered to your pre-arranged accommodation.

Complete the airport pickup form to request this service.
