About HR

Welcome to Human Resources

The services we offer are designed to meet the human resource management needs of the University, by our commitment to support the academic and general staff of the University in seven areas:

Advisory Services

Offers professional advice, support and information in the following areas: policy; recruitment and selection; employment conditions; promotions and salary reviews; performance management; change management; employment contracts; EEO and 'best practice'.

Early Childhood Learning Centre

Provides full day care and education for the children of staff at the University of Canterbury.

Employment Relations

Provides industrial relations support to Heads of Departments/Schools and other line managers; negotiates employment contracts (collective and individual); conflict resolution through mediation; management of harassment prevention.

Health and Safety

Develops, advises and assists in the implementation of the University's Health and Safety Policy. Offers education and training aimed at risk management. Also responsible for accident compensation claims, fire safety, emergency procedures, civil defence and provides occupational health services.

Learning and Development

The Human Resources team's priority is to ensure individual and team learning needs are aligned with the overall strategic goals and direction of the university. We welcome the opportunity to help you fulfill your learning needs in a holistic way by exploring various alternative options and strategies.

Strategic Human Resource Management

Provides human resource strategic plans and information to the Vice-Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor's Office and the Council of the University of Canterbury.
