The Department of Economics and Finance is pleased to present Andrew Atkeson, Stanley M. Zimmerman Professor of Economics and Finance, and Director of Business Economics at UCLA.
The 2008 financial crisis highlighted the risks arising from money market links between banks and securities markets. In this lecture, Professor Atkeson reviews the magnitude of U.S. banks’ involvement in securities markets and the history of regulatory responses. For regulators, the challenge remains to find ways to insulate banks from panics in securities markets without fully severing the links between the two.
