The School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics is hosting a seminar by Vera Leier, Senior Tutor in German, on "Using Facebook as a Platform in Foreign Language Teaching".

Looking for a way to make German language study more relevant and to step out of the conventional classroom setting, I introduced Facebook (FB) as a learning platform to my beginners and intermediate German students.

The study of both groups has shown that teaching a modern language using innovative techniques with the help of widely accepted media devices was well-received by the students. The feedback I received was very positive and the students wish to continue with exercises using FB in their subsequent classes.

In my presentation I will also talk about different social media sites and their potentials.
