PhD Enrolment
PhD Enrolment (new PhD students)
Before you can enrol you will need approval from the department you are interested in studying with.
If you have international entrance qualifications apply for admission.
Once Departmental approval is granted you then submit an Application for Enrolment as a PhD Candidate (Word, 140KB) (Postgraduate Studies website). This form is also available from the Postgraduate Office.
An Application to Enrol (ATE) will be created on your behalf and you should check that your details are up to date on UC Student Web.
When you are happy with the details, remember to click the SUBMIT button before you exit UCStudent Web and your application will be forwarded to the appropriate department for final approval.
Alternatively you can call the Contact Centre on 0800 VARSITY for personal assistance.
Once your application has been approved you can complete your enrolment.
PhD re-enrolment (continuing students)
You must re-enrol each year. We will send you a reminder before the anniversary of your official start date. You must complete your enrolment by your re-enrolment date to ensure continuing access to ICT services and door access.
Complete your Enrolment
An Application to Enrol (ATE) will be created on your behalf. You will be asked to review the details of your ATE on and to submit your application for final approval in order to complete your enrolment through UCStudent Web.
Your re-enrolment is complete only when your Enrolment offer has been accepted and fees have been paid in full.
If corrections are required to your Enrolment Offer, please contact thesis-enrolments@canterbury.ac.nz before accepting it.
Suspension from study
If you wish to apply for a suspension of your study please contact the Postgraduate Office
If your enrolment is currently suspended, you should complete re-enrolment at the end of your suspension period.

Submission of thesis
If you intend to submit your thesis in your month of grace, you are not required to re-enrol.
However, if you submit your thesis outside the month of grace period you will be required to re-enrol for a further enrolment period until your thesis is submitted.
