Exceptions for Engineering and Law students

These exemptions apply to students using New Zealand qualifications only.

Students with international qualifications need to apply for Transfer of credit from an overseas qualification.

Engineering and Forestry Science students

Applicants for the Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (BE (Hons) do not need to apply for credit.

Instead, you need to apply for admission with advanced standing towards the BE(Hons) - the College of Engineering and Forestry will decide how much exemption (if any) it will grant you.

Law students

Applicants for the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) who already have a (non-law) degree do not need to apply for credit, because graduates are exempted from the requirement to complete 75 points of non-law.

The School of Law will, however, require a copy of students’ academic transcripts, confirming completion of the degree, in order to grant this exemption. In addition, graduates may apply to the School of Law for graduate admission to the LLB.

If graduate admission is granted, such students enrol concurrently for LAWS101, LAWS110 and some LAWS200 courses.  For further information, including the application process, please contact the School of Law, during October of the year prior to enrolment.

If you have an incomplete bachelor's degree, and/or if you have previously completed law courses, you need to apply for credit towards the LLB. Note that if you are applying to transfer into LAWS200 courses you must lodge your application by the date published by the School of Law – this deadline is normally in the year before the year in which enrolment commences and students should confirm the date during October of the previous year.
