The Ministry of Education web sites for LiteracyESOL, and English online are a rich source of information for teachers. 

Content for these parallel websites can help teachers by providing guidance around three aspects of their practice.

 Within these websites you can join online forums and receive monthly newsletters.

Online forums

Join up to six Interact Groups to take part in and follow email-based disucssions around literacy. Here you can also subscibe to monthly community newsletters.

New Zealand Curriculum sets the direction for learning languages other than English in English-medium schools. Keep in touch with curriculum-related developments on the New Zealand curriculum website.

Learning Languages Curriculum Guides

These on-line guides are second-tier resources that sit under the generic Achievement Objectives in the New Zealand Curriculum. They set the direction for learning languages other than English in English-medium schools, and provide support material for curriculum levels 1 - 4. 

Senior Secondary Guides

The Senior Secondary Guides for Learning Languages are second-tier resources that sit under the generic Achievement Objectives in the New Zealand Curriculum. They include information about how the strands for Learning Languages relate to the key competencies, and context elaborations for levels 6, 7 and 8.

The New Zealand Association of Language Teachers (NZALT) provides wide-ranging support for teachers of languages, and is an important conduit representing language teachers’ thoughts and concerns to the Ministry of Education and NZQA. If you are not already a member, it is well worth joining this professional association:

NZQA Subject specific resources

Key NCEA information for teachers of languages has been assembled on subject-specific pages. This includes the Achievement Standards, National Moderator Reports and Newsletters, Clarifications documents, and exemplars of student work.
