Principal and leadership appraisal

Appraisal for principals, deputy principals, leadership teams, middle leaders and teachers

Our team of appraisers are available to facilitate the appraisal process of the Principal and/or Leadership team at your school.

What is the process for Principal and Leadership Appraisal?

To assist the Board of Trustees with the appraisal of the Principal’s managerial responsibilities the UC Education Plus Facilitator works in partnership with the Principal and the Board of Trustees to:

  • write a Performance Agreement to address the school’s strategic intent and to meet other identified priorities and requirements
  • link Performance Agreement outcomes to the Principal professional standards and incorporate the professional standards into the school’s performance management system
  • provide on-going guidance and support throughout the process.

The performance agreement and annual appraisal will meet the mandatory requirement of the MOE performance management guidelines. This includes the evaluation of the professional standards where appropriate.

There are a number of framework options available and appraisals can be tailored to suit your school and staff.

Programme Key Elements

A school year process:

  • Meetings with the principal, board of trustees chairperson and other mutually agreed people
  • Writing a Performance Agreement at the beginning of the process
  • Agreement on how relevant data related to the principal’s performance is going to be collected
  • Collection and sharing of the data related to intended objectives and outcomes
  • An opportunity for self-reflection
  • A written report and presentation

What options are available?

Option 1: Principal Appraisal

Key elements include:

  • Process usually from February - December
  • Meetings with principal, board of trustees chairperson and any other mutually agreed people
  • Writing of a Performance Agreement at the beginning of the process
  • Agreement on how relevant data related to the principal’s performance is going to be collected
  • Collection and sharing of data related to intended objectives and outcomes
  • Opportunity for self reflection
  • Written report presented

Fee: $1850 excluding GST (Primary only)

Option 2

A facilitator working in partnership with the principal and the board of trustees chairperson to develop a process that meets identified needs.

Option 3

Senior leaders or Curriculum leaders appraisal, incorporating the key elements.

Option 4

Senior leaders or curriculum leaders appraisal, incorporating the key elements from Option 1.

Fee: Options 2-4 to be negotiated according to individual school requirements.
