Doctor of Musical Arts* DMA

*Subject to TEC approval.

The DMA is aimed at those undertaking advanced research in music composition or performance. It comprises scholarly research in the form of a supervised research thesis and performance practice in the form of public music performance or the presentation of compositions. Students make a significant contribution both intellectually and in practice to either the interpretative and/or technical practice of musical performance,
or the technical and creative practice of musical composition. The application process normally requires an audition, interview and/or submission of previous academic work and recommendation from the School of Music.

Entry requirements

MMus with distinction or merit or MusB with first or second class honours division 1.

Courses

Duration

36–48 months full-time; 48–84 months part-time.
