Postgraduate Diploma in Education endorsed in
e-Learning and Digital Technologies in Education PGDipEd

The Postgraduate Diploma in Education is designed to provide opportunities to improve professional practice and examine critically significant issues in education. Students may proceed to the Master of Education.

e-Learning and Digital Technologies in Education endorsement

The Postgraduate Diploma in Education endorsed in e-Learning and Digital Technologies in Education is designed to give educators, support staff and trainers the opportunity to improve their professional practice with ICT and critically examine significant issues within this area.

Students undertake research and provide leadership in their specific areas of interest. The PGDipEd e-Learning courses are now only available by Flexible Learning Option (FLO).

Entry requirements

Candidates must be approved as a candidate for the diploma by the Dean of Education, and have either:

(a) qualified for any appropriate degree in New Zealand with at least 0.45 EFTS at 300-level in Education; or

(b) qualified for any appropriate degree in New Zealand and either;

i. successfully completed a recognised teacher training course of not less than one year at a New Zealand college of education or university;
ii. or acquired experience as a teacher in a recognised educational institution or setting;
iii. acquired experience as a counsellor in a recognised counselling setting;
iv. acquired appropriate experience as an educator in a work-place or community setting;
v satisfied the conditions for admission to the diploma endorsed in leadership; or
vi. completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Education; or

(c) been admitted Admission Ad Eundem Statum.

The relevance and standard of undergraduate studies and any subsequent professional work experience are the main criteria of approval. Students will normally be expected to have at least a B average in their 300-level courses.

Duration

One year full-time, up to four years part-time.

Courses

The Postgraduate Diploma in Education endorsed in e-Learning and Digital Technologies in Education comprises a total of 120 points:

Any three of:

  • EDEM 627 e-Learning and Pedagogy: Effective Strategies for the Classroom
  • EDEM 628 Best Practice in Online Teaching and Learning
  • EDEM 629 Teaching Meets Technology in Online Environments
  • EDEM 630 Change with Digital Technologies in Education

And an additional 0.25 EFTS (30 points) from the Master of Education schedule.

A candidate wishing to enrol in a thesis for the Master of Education following the award of this diploma should note that completing 0.25 EFTS (30 points) of approved research methodology courses will normally be required.
