Master of Business Management* MBM

*Not open to new enrolments in 2012.

The MBM is suitable for students with a first degree – specifically in non-commerce subject areas – good grades, and with little or no business experience. The MBM is designed to develop master’s level knowledge and skills in business and management as part of career preparation and entry. The aim is to prepare individuals for employment either in a field related to their first degree discipline by enhancing the utility and employability of the first discipline, or in a management role.

The MBM is a two-year programme. The first year comprises 10 core courses; in the second year students take seven more courses and complete a research project. Progression into the programme’s second year requires a B grade average over the 10 first-year courses. Students may exit the programme with a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDipBM) on successful completion of the first-year courses.

Entry requirements

Candidates wishing to enrol in the Master of Business Management must be approved as a candidate for the degree by the Dean of Commerce, and either qualified for a New Zealand university degree with at least a B grade average in 300 level courses, or equivalent, or been admitted Ad Eundem Statum as the holder of such a degree; or qualified for admission by transferring from the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management.

Applicants must demonstrate a high proficiency in English. Applicants who speak English as a second language will be required to produce evidence that their ability to communicate in English is of an adequate standard. This may include TOEFL, or other tests, interview, or comprehension tests in order to ensure that an applicant will be able to communicate and participate fully in the course.
