A cross-disciplinary sport science focus of the role exercise and nutrition has in the spectrum from health to enhanced sport performance. Emphasis is placed upon contemporary sport science developments examined through meta-analysis and critiquing of journal articles. Students also have the opportunity to collect data in an area of interest, which may include exercise prescription for making people faster, stronger, more efficient and less susceptible to injury and illness.
1. Debate and critique current theories of the causes of lifestyle diseases and illnesses2. Perform an advanced analysis of the interaction between energy systems in response to physical exercise at varying intensities3. Analyse the strength of the scientific evidence supporting or otherwise the use of various nutritional and ergogenic aids for enhancing health, and sports performance.4. Critically analyse nutritional diets and investigate the interaction between diet modification and health outcomes5. Research and evaluate current technological advances in fitness assessment tools and training practices6. Prescribe appropriate training methods for supporting athletes to achieve training goals7. Analyse repeated-measures data collected in training sessions and communicate key findings to stakeholders8. Critically analyse and evaluate models of teaching healthy lifestyles in education settings / sport teams.
