Description

Students will experience, as well as learn about, authentic inquiry-based learning. They will share ideas and record links to theory, to best classroom practice, and to their developing philosophy of teaching and learning. In using an inquiry-based approach, students will be introduced to contemporary and well-researched means of optimising learning within the New Zealand Curriculum by undertaking an investigation into an area of personal interest.

Learning Outcomes

Students completing this course will be able to:
• Identify and select from a range of appropriate resources and inquiry processes for gathering information in an ethical manner in response to the topic selected for their inquiry.
• Critically examine and process the gathered information to create meaningful outcomes.
• Present their research findings to an audience, in a format to be negotiated with a mentor.
• Contribute actively to their mentor group learning community through regular meetings and feedback, including informed participation in peer presentations.
• Articulate and record in their journal their developing understanding of how inquiry-based experiences link to best classroom practice and to the processes inherent in authentic learning.
