Description

This course addresses contemporary understanding of the intersection between psychology, sport, exercise and science. Psychological aspects of sport performance and exercise behaviour will be examined, and the relationship between sport/exercise and human wellbeing evaluated. Key theoretical, methodological, and applied issues relevant to understanding and enhancing performance, participation, and wellbeing in sport and exercise settings will be critically evaluated.

Learning Outcomes

1. Appraise contemporary research in the psychology of sport and exercise.
2. Critically evaluate psychological theories and methods in terms of explaining and enhancing sport and exercise behaviour.
3. Evaluate scientific, social, and ethical issues in sport and exercise psychology.
4. Effectively communicate analyses of issues in sport and exercise psychology.

Critical Discussion and Reflection 11 Sep 2023 30% A series of critical evaluations of topics from the first half of the course. Learning outcomes 1-4.
Presentation 20% An in-class presentation on a selected topic in sport/exercise psychology. Learning outcomes 1-4.
Review Assignment 27 Oct 2023 50% A written assignment critically reviewing a selected topic in sport/exercise psychology. Learning outcomes 1-4.
