Description

This is the first of two advanced Russian language courses. It aims at improving students' all-round knowledge of contemporary Russian language and communication skills.

EXPECTATIONS
Students in this course are expected to attend all tutorial-type sessions.

Note on attendance:  Languages are learned by doing, and the tutorial-style sessions in this course are designed to create an atmosphere in which students can try out their language skills on each other. If you do not attend regularly and do not keep up with the work, you will therefore not only be hindering your own progress, but you will also be holding back the other students with whom you are working.

Learning Outcomes

As a student in this course you will continue to improve skills in all four areas of the language (reading, writing, speaking and listening). By the end of the course you should be able to read, write and translate non-adopted texts. The average student will be able to speak fluent Russian. Students’ listening comprehension should reach a level where you will understand normal speech of a native speaker. Students will practice writing intensively and will be able to compose short essays.

By learning a foreign language students will develop more understanding of global conditions and will become competent in engaging with global and multi-cultural contexts. This will help the language students to develop knowledge and attributes sought by employers that can be used in a range of applications.
