An advanced survey of research methods, including the design and conduct of research studies and the analysis and reporting of data in Psychology.
This course will consider a variety of methods that are useful for carrying out psychological research. The topics and methods to be covered will include the following: Psychology as a science; theories of scientific method; phenomena detection, methods of theory construction; qualitative research methods; research validity; standard experimental, quasi-experimental, and correlational research designs; multiple regression; meta-analysis; the importance of research design; evaluation of the standard model and alternatives; visual analysis; survey research; single case research designs; and, case studies. The laboratory classes are designed to provide practical experience in conducting psychological research, and in writing research reports.
