Description

This course deals with learning and emphasises the way in which events in an individual’s environment control his/her behaviour. Laboratory work illustrates selected principles of behaviour control using animal subjects in controlled environments.

This course is concerned with the behaviour of individuals, both as a matter of practical importance, and as a subject of scientific interest.  Particular emphasis is given to how it is controlled by events in the individual's environment.  In this area of psychology, we seek some general principles that govern all behaviour, regardless of its type, placing rather less emphasis on the specific types of behaviour concerned (such as social behaviour, abnormal behaviour, etc).

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course, you may expect to have a thorough grounding in the principles of learning and behaviour control, and to be well prepared for graduate courses especially Behavioural Interventions and Experimental Analysis of Behaviour.
