Description

Production of a significant portfolio of compositions (notated and/or digital and/or performed live) together with supporting documentation

Working with one or more supervisors and mentors, students produce a significant portfolio of creative work aligned with their chosen field of practice (notated composition, electroacoustic music, sound art, songwriting, sound installation, etc.). The number of works can vary according to the mode of creative output but should be equivalent to a significant public output (e.g. a full-length concert program of chamber or mixed works, major public exhibition, album recording, work for symphony orchestra, substantial multichannel sound work, etc.). Portfolios can be in the form of: musical scores (supported by recordings or MIDI realizations where available); Digital audio files; Code or software; a combination of these; or other media appropriate for the type of creative output. For site specific or other non-reproducible works, audio visual recordings accompanied by explanatory text, or other appropriate form of documentation, must be provided. In all cases the portfolio should be accompanied by program / exhibition / liner notes, along with a contextual essay not exceeding 3,000 words. Students are expected to join the weekly Composition Workshop meetings, and take a proactive role in mentoring undergraduate composition students via mentor group activities.
