Description

Advanced study in, and mastery of, the performance of an instrument or voice.

The aim of this course is to undertake advanced study in, and gain mastery of, the performance of an instrument or voice.
Students will attend weekly individual lessons of 1.5 hours; they will also participate in the Performance Workshop (Wednesday 5:00-6:30), and any ensemble training, in an instrument or voice, as relevant. In the development of repertoire, performance in the Friday lunchtime (1:10-2pm) concerts held in the Arts Centre Recital Room is encouraged, as is to support (by listening to) their community of fellow students, performance staff and selected guests.

MUSA342 or MUSI341 with a grade of B+ or higher, and approval of Head of School

Assessment

Assessment is based on two public performance recitals/concerts/gigs, each examined by an external examiner and moderated by a member of the School of Music staff.  The teacher will normally be present at the examination and the post-performance discussion, but will not take part in deciding the grade.  The first examination will be worth 40% of the final grade, and the second examination will be worth 60%. The end-of-year examiner will be subject to approval via the Examinations Office. (Music performance courses are not eligible for aegrotat consideration).


Examination 1:  Mid-year recital  (scheduled between 5th and 15th June) of up to 45 minutes duration that includes one major work and demonstrates a working understanding of projecting a performance in different styles and/or approaches.

Examination 2: Full recital programme (scheduled between 22nd October and 2nd November) of up to 50 minutes duration of material different from the mid-year recital, including one major work and demonstrates an imaginative and perceptive capacity to perform in a range of styles and/or approaches.


PLEASE NOTE:

1.  Music performance courses are not eligible for aegrotat consideration.
2.  Private video recordings of examination recitals will not be permitted.
