Candidates will demonstrate all or most of the following attributes:

A+ Exceptional   High level of ability to set demanding and achievable objectives, exceptionally high level of competence and achievements in all areas, high level of commitment to work, a broad and in-depth knowledge of current issues, theory and practices of contemporary composition, high level of innovation and initiative with high success rate, high level critical skills.

A Outstanding   High level of ability to set demanding and achievable objectives, high levels of competence and achievement in all areas, high level of commitment to work, systematically explores current issues, theory and practices of contemporary composition, innovates and shows initiative with good success rate, high level of critical skills.

A- Excellent Ability to set demanding and achievable objectives, good levels of competence and achievement in all areas - high levels in some areas, good level of commitment to work, preparedness to explore current issues, theory and practices of contemporary composition, prepared to innovate and show initiative, is generally successful, good critical skills

B+ Very Good Ability to set clear and achievable objectives, good levels of competence and achievement in most areas, good work rate, has explored some current issues, theory and practices of contemporary composition, innovates and shows initiative occasionally, with average success, work meets more than course requirements, acceptable critical skills

B Good Ability to set clear and achievable objectives, general competence, achievements in a number of areas, reasonable work rate, has explored some issues, theory and practices of contemporary composition, innovates and shows initiative occasionally, with average success, work meets more than course requirements, acceptable critical skills

C Barely Acceptable Ability to work out objectives, average competence, acceptable achievements, meets basic course requirements of the course, achievements just outweigh deficiencies, barely acceptable work rate, lacks innovation and initiative, acceptable critical skills

C - Marginal Limited ability to set objectives, some success in a few areas and met basic course requirements, but unlikely to succeed at a higher level.

D Unsatisfactory Failed to meet basic requirements, deficiencies significantly outweigh accomplishments.

E Poor Failed to meet basic requirements of the course

In a course at 100- or 200-level examiners may grant restricted credit (R) which will be equivalent to a pass for all purposes except as a prerequisite.
