This course builds on MUSA 190, expanding development of sophisticated choral singing skills and good rehearsal techniques, and performing in public.
The aim of this course is to equip you with intermediate skills required of choral singers through a range of repertoire. There will be weekly rehearsals, and performances scheduled throughout the year.
By passing this course, students will be able to:* Sing your vocal line accompanied and unaccompanied;* Pronounce and translate simple texts correctly;* Have an understanding of vocal production and technique, and concepts of intonation;* Sight sing moderate music unaccompanied;* Maintain your vocal line in an ensemble;* Attend rehearsals regularly and punctually;* Show commitment and team work throughout the year;* Focus during rehearsals by marking scores;* Demonstrate responsibility in a choral setting.

WORKLOAD:Student workload (150 hours) will be allocated approximately as follows:* 100 hours attending rehearsals* 15 hours attending performances* 25 hours for own practice

Semester 1 Singing Test (15 minute time-slot between 4.00 and 6.15 pm)You will be required to:* Perform 5 intermediate extracts from 'Consortia's' Semester 1 repertoire (2 accompanied and 3 unaccompanied) (15%)* Pronounce the text correctly (5%)* Answer questions on vocal production and technique and/or intonation (5%)* Sight-sing moderate music unaccompanied (5%)* Maintain your vocal line in an ensemble (5%)Semester 2 Singing Test (15 minute time-slot between 4.00 and 6.00 pm)You will be required to:* Perform 5 intermediate extracts from 'Consortia's' Semester 1 repertoire (2 accompanied and 3 unaccompanied) (15%)* Pronounce and translate text correctly (5%)* Answer questions on vocal production and technique and/or intonation (5%)* Sight-sing moderate music unaccompanied (5%)* Maintain your vocal line in an ensemble (5%)CommitmentIn 750 words, you are to summarise your attendance, commitment, team work, focus and learning, extra responsibilities throughout the year. While this summary won't be assessed, its content will be used to award a grade for these aspects in conjunction with the lecturer's assessment.
