Description

This course is designed for musicians who seek to understand the current state of the music industry and learn principles of marketing for musicians. The course covers application processes and funding structures, basic business skills for musicians, and the issues associated with copyright and the internet-based dissemination of music.

This course aims to develop student understanding of the current state of the music industry (national and global), principles of marketing for musicians, small business skills and tax for musicians, knowledge regarding copyright and internet-based dissemination of music. Students will gain an understanding of current funding structures and application processes.

Learning Outcomes

Students who pass this course will have developed:
● Knowledge of the current music industry both national and global;
● Knowledge of the principles of marketing for musicians;
● Knowledge of small business skills;
● Knowledge of tax for musicians;
● Knowledge of copyright law and issues;
● Knowledge of funding structures and grant application processes;
● Knowledge of current internet-based dissemination and presentation methods.
