Description

A study of the main principles of law affecting amateur and professional sporting activity. This course is offered in alternate years.

The law is now an integral part of sport.  This course explores the application of commercial and legal principles to a specialist environment, the uniqueness of which invites innovative and interesting legal arrangements.

The course explores only some of the contemporary issues.  These include: sports marketing (copyright, design, trademarks), sponsorship agreements (options, rights of refusal, restraints of trade), sports medicine and the law, drug testing and human rights issues, advertising rights, unjust or unfair contracts and alternative dispute resolution.

The course seeks to give students a thorough knowledge of the topics presented.  Where possible, it will be run on a seminar-type basis.  When appropriate, guest speakers with expertise in the relevant area will be invited to address the class.

PLEASE NOTE:  This course will be not be offered in 2019.
