Description

The course involves a detailed study of the law relating to sale of goods, consumer guarantees, fair trading and other consumer protection legislation.

This course involves a detailed examination of sale of goods. This type of transaction is fundamental to commerce and will be explored in its two most important forms: business to business and business to consumer. Most of the relevant law here is statutory and is found in the Contract and Commercial Law Act 2017. the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986.

Learning Outcomes

  • At the completion of the course, students should be able to:
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the law of sales of goods in New Zealand;
  • Apply the law of contract to complex factual situations;
  • Analyse sales of goods; and
  • Evaluate sales of goods rules in terms of principle, policy and/or practice.
