Description

This course compares and contrasts the history of New Zealand with the history of its most important neighbour, Australia. The course explores the extent to which the Tasman neighbours share a history as well as what makes this country distinctive. Analysis extends from the Anzac tradition to the idea of Australasia. The aim is to understand why New Zealand is closely integrated with Australia today.

New Zealand has no closer relationship than that with Australia, its largest neighbour. This course explores the extent to which the Tasman neighbours share a history in order to deepen our understanding of New Zealand as a community and how it relates to the world. The course compares and contrasts the histories of Australia and New Zealand, exploring how and why they are similar but also different.  Themes range from the idea of Australasia to the Anzac tradition, and why and how the two countries are so closely integrated today.
