Medieval Europe: from Rome to the Black Death
Description
A survey course covering mainly Western Europe c.450 to c.1350 covering a range of themes including social and economic developments, government, religion and warfare.
A survey course exploring the development of western European society between c.300 and c.1350. This is the Europe of knights and castles, of King Arthur and of Robin Hood; yet it is also the Europe of the first parliaments, the common law and the crusades. The course touches upon all of these topics and more. Via a wide-ranging discussion of social developments, government, architecture, religion and warfare we will build up a broad picture of the European world in a key period of its development.
