To consider the role of forests in water, soil and biodiversity conservation, the use of forest products for construction and energy, the dynamics of deforestation and the role of forests and forest products in climate change. The course includes a one-day field trip to Peel Forest where students learn to recognise some native and exotic tree species, and also to appreciate both the biodiversity of native forest landscapes and the effects that we have had on them.
