The Idea of Europe
Description
This course brings together a number of thematic strands linked under the central organising principle, "the Idea of Europe". This multi-disciplinary approach will examine the diversity encompassed within "the Idea of Europe", covering perspectives that are Social, Cultural, Linguistic, Identity, Historical, Political and Economic in nature."
This European Studies core course will be taught by a combination of visiting academics from Europe as well as UC staff in 2003. The course brings together a number of thematic strands linked under the central organising principle, “the idea of Europe”. This multi-disciplinary approach will examine the diversity encompassed within “the idea of Europe”, covering perspectives that are:
- Social
- Cultural
- Linguistic
- Identity
- Historical
- Political
- Economic
The course concentrates on Europe of the twentieth century; however, some earlier historical context is also provided where necessary. Not all seven elements of the core course will necessarily be covered in any one year.
