Description

This is a 200 level compulsory BTchLn (Primary) course which focuses on quality teaching and learning of physical education in the primary school. This course develops the student's ability to critique physical education pedagogy through a variety of movement contexts. Students critically reflect on physical education literature in order to develop a personal philosophy and to discuss issues in teaching physical education. This course is the second of two compulsory papers to prepare student teachers to teach physical education.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
Critique physical education literature including curriculum documents to enhance personal understanding of learning and teaching in physical education
Apply principles of movement in analysing motor skills in a range of movement contexts
Critique issues and resources and apply this knowledge through a range of movement contexts
Select, justify and apply appropriate physical education pedagogical practices to maximise children's learning
Evaluate the philosophy and implementation of physical education programme models in the primary school
